Is Everest Base Camp worth it?
Yes, for the right walker — Everest Base Camp is a pilgrimage through Sherpa country as much as a trek to a famous spot. The Khumbu villages, monasteries and encircling giants are the real reward; Base Camp itself is an anticlimactic pile of rock and tents. Go for the journey, and the altitude, not the destination.

The catch
Base Camp has no view of Everest's summit and looks underwhelming in person — the magic is entirely in getting there. Altitude to 5,364 m is the genuine hazard, and the trail is far busier than the photographs suggest.
