List Day
Once a year, the list proves it’s alive.
The Benned List holds fifty experiences — no more, no fewer. On List Day, every 18 July, the panel revises it: what earned its place, what has slipped, and every Mark that moved. The rest of the year, the list stands still. That restraint is what makes each change matter.

Three laws keep it honest
Always fifty
The list holds exactly fifty. To admit one, another must leave — one in, one out. Scarcity is the point.
Numbers never return
A departing experience retires its BND number for good; arrivals take the next free one. The highest number tells the list’s age.
Scarcity by design
Roughly 20% ▲▲▲, 40% ▲▲, 40% ▲. A new ▲▲▲ almost always means another steps down — the top stays rare on purpose.
What the panel weighs
The Mark is decided by the expert panel per pillar. The panel weighs four inputs — and proves them in the field.
The Founder’s Run
First-hand field verification — did the panel’s judgement hold up on the ground? The heaviest test.
Verified member reviews
A signal, not a vote, aggregated only from members who provably completed an experience.
The Watchlist
Members nominate candidates all year; the Watchlist is the pipeline the panel draws from.
The annual data study
Overtourism, permit quotas, price, what is disappearing — the objective evidence behind every status and change.
The year, in order
Founder’s Run check-offs, verified reviews accumulate, the Watchlist stays open.
The State of Once-in-a-Lifetime Travel — the annual data study, and the first press moment.
The panel convenes per pillar: re-score Marks, decide arrivals and departures, prepare the embargoed press kit.
The revision is published — drip-announced over the preceding weeks — with the transparency report the same day. Members see it 48 hours early.
The moments of the reveal
One to Watch
The next in line — the experience closest to admission. Speculation, and a warm on-ramp to the list.
New this year
The arrivals, each taking the next free number.
Retired
The departures — their number retired for good. A departure is news too.
Highest climber
The largest Mark promotion of the year.

List Day 2026 — the first fifty
The Benned List opens: fifty experiences across eight pillars, each with a first, provisional Mark to be confirmed by the panel and by verified reviews in the years that follow.
