The Benned List was founded by Daniël Paaij — a Dutch entrepreneur who decided the world’s greatest experiences deserved a standard. The Mark itself is decided by an expert panel; Daniël’s job is the ground truth: living the list in full, so the panel never judges anything the publication hasn’t faced in the field.

Marks are decided by a small expert panel per pillar — never by one voice alone. The Founder’s Run is the ground truth beneath that judgement: working through the list personally, the same booking routes, the same seasons, the same early alarms.
Paid for in full
No press trips, no comped stays, no operator gifts. Experiences are booked and paid for like any member would — it is the only way the panel’s verdict stays worth something.
Documented honestly
Each experience is checked off with a written account, film and field notes — including what disappointed. An honest miss is worth more to the list than a polished highlight reel, and it all flows back to the panel.
Where this comes from
Daniël has spent his working life building companies in the Netherlands, and his spare time getting as far away from a desk as roads, water and weather allow. The Benned List began as a private document: a running answer to the question of which experiences are genuinely worth a life’s limited time — and which famous ones are not.
That document became a standard — the Benned Mark, weighed by a small expert panel per pillar — and the standard demanded proof. The Founder’s Run is that proof: one person, all fifty experiences, documented in full, feeding the panel’s judgement, revised every year on List Day.
