The system

A standard, not a bucket list.

Michelin’s highest verdict is “worth a journey.” The Benned List begins where that ends — because everything on it is already worth the trip. Here is exactly how the Mark is decided, and why it can be trusted.

The five criteria

Every experience is weighed on the same five. The criteria are public; their weighting stays editorial.

01

Transformation

Does it change you?

02

Unrepeatability

Can this happen only in one place, or one moment?

03

Setting

The grandeur of where you are.

04

Execution

The quality with which it is delivered.

05

Story value

Will you carry it with you for twenty years?

Three sources of input

01

Our own verification

The “Done by Benned” seal — the Founder’s Run, walking the list ourselves.

02

A small expert panel

Per pillar, people who know the terrain better than anyone.

03

Verified member reviews

Only members who have provably checked an experience off may rate it. You cannot review what you have not lived — the structural difference from every review site.

Governance

Marks are never for sale.

Affiliate and curated income sit on the route to an experience — never on the verdict about it. Sponsorships fund the mystery-guest programme and stay strictly apart from the editorial.

Marks are reviewed once a year on List Day. Promotions and demotions alike are announced — both are news. Operators may, in time, carry the Benned seal, kept firmly separate from the panel.

Scarcity is kept at the top by design: roughly 20% ▲▲▲, 40% ▲▲, 40% ▲.

The living list

The list always holds 50 experiences, but the numbers live on. A BND number is never reused: when an experience leaves, its number is retired, and newcomers take the next one — so the highest number tells the history of the list.

Outside List Day, the list does not change. Only an acute safety or ethical issue can suspend an experience at once. Status labels carry urgency without altering the list:

Last chance

Disappearing within the foreseeable future — melting glaciers, closing routes. The strongest reason on the list to book now.

At risk

An overtourism or sustainability signal; we advise a season or an alternative route.

Suspended

Temporarily not responsible to do (safety, ethics). The booking route goes offline; the number stays.

Archived

Off the list for good. The number is retired and never reused; the page stays live, and anyone who checked it off keeps it forever.

The Mark is decided by the panel — and proven in the field by the founder. Meet the founder — and how the Founder’s Run keeps it honest.
