BND-044Worth a trip

Is A week fully off-grid, phone in a lockbox worth it?

For most people, yes — and it costs almost nothing. A week with the phone genuinely locked away rediscovers attention, boredom and each other, and its value has only grown as our screens have. The experience is quiet and unglamorous, which is exactly why it works.

· Year-round · 5–7 days

Worth it if

  • You feel owned by your phone
  • You want a low-cost reset with family
  • You can tolerate a few restless days

Skip it if

  • Work truly cannot spare you for a week
  • You want stimulation rather than stillness
  • You will smuggle a second device anyway

The catch

Locking the phone in a box is easy; the withdrawal in the first two days is not, and half-measures ruin it entirely. The setting matters less than the honesty of the disconnection — one hidden device and the whole exercise collapses.
