Is Spotting polar bears in Svalbard worth it?
Only if you can make peace with maybe. A small expedition ship into the Svalbard pack ice offers a chance to see polar bears on their own frozen ground, and the high-Arctic setting alone is extraordinary. But sightings are never promised, and travellers who need a guaranteed close-up bear will feel let down.

Most bear sightings are distant, and ice conditions dictate where the ship can go, not your wishlist. Bring a proper long lens, manage expectations, and value the ice, walrus and light as the main event rather than a bear on cue.
