BND-017Worth a year

Is Tour du Mont Blanc worth it?

Yes — the Tour du Mont Blanc deserves its reputation as the benchmark long walk in Europe. The infrastructure is superb, the circuit around the massif is constantly beautiful, and you can walk it hut-to-hut with a light pack. It is demanding daily but asks no technical skill, only steady legs and time.

€€ · Late June–September · 7–11 days

Worth it if

  • You are a fit hiker wanting a classic multi-day trail
  • You like well-marked routes with reliable huts
  • You will commit to real daily ascents

Skip it if

  • You want wilderness solitude, not a busy trail
  • Long uphill days in all weathers put you off
  • You dislike sharing the route with crowds

The catch

Its fame is also its flaw: July and August bring heavy foot traffic and booked-out refuges, so reserve early or walk the shoulder season. The daily climbs are longer than newcomers expect — this is a serious trek, not a stroll.
