Paragliding over Interlaken (tandem)
Running off an alpine slope and soaring silently between two lakes is flight at its most graceful.
The verdict — why this Mark
A tandem paraglide over Interlaken is the gentlest way to actually fly — no engine, just thermals, the Eiger and two blue lakes below. The setting is glorious and the barrier to entry low. A delightful worth-a-trip and a soft landing into the sky pillar.

What you need
- Warm fleece mid-layer
It is several degrees cooler aloft than in the valley; a fleece under a jacket keeps the flight comfortable.
- Windproof jacket
A light shell cuts the airflow during the flight and packs down to nothing for the climb up.
- Sturdy trainers or approach shoes
You launch and land on grass, sometimes on a slope; closed shoes with grip are safer than sandals.
- Sunglasses with a retainer
Glare off the lakes and snow is strong; a strap stops them leaving your face in the air.
- Thin gloves
Hands feel the cold first at altitude; a light pair keeps them warm without hindering the harness.
Preparation
Body
Physical demand sits at 1/5. Arrive with the fitness this asks for; it repays it.
Mind
The hardest part is rarely the logistics. Expect to be changed, and let it.

Recovery is the condition of the adventurous life, not its reward.

Do I need any experience or training?+
None at all. Your pilot handles the launch, the flight and the landing; your only task is to run a few steps downhill at take-off and lift your legs on landing.
What if the weather is poor on my day?+
Tandem flights are weather-dependent and are cancelled or postponed in strong or gusty wind, low cloud or rain. Reputable operators reschedule or refund, so it is wise to keep a spare morning in your itinerary.
Can children fly, and is there a weight limit?+
Most operators fly passengers from around twelve years, subject to a minimum weight of roughly 25–30 kg and a maximum near 100–120 kg. Confirm the exact limits when booking, as they vary by wing and pilot.
Will I feel airsick?+
Straight, gentle flying rarely causes sickness, but the spirals and wingovers can. Tell your pilot beforehand if you are prone to motion sickness and they will keep the flight smooth.
How long am I actually in the air?+
A standard tandem is eight to fifteen minutes of flight after a short climb to launch; longer 'thermic' or panorama flights of twenty to thirty minutes are usually offered at a higher price.
